Mornings

Mornings always seem to start to early. Normally eating breakfast by 7 and out the door shortly after. We always start, as you would imagine, by feeding and watering. Feeding 280 head of cattle is no quick chore but its done relatively efficiently with the use of a feed truck. We have a central feed yard located basically in the middle of the ranch that allows all the cattle to come to us for feed instead of vice versa. This allows us to have a third of the feed troughs otherwise needed. This also allows us to be able to easier put cattle in working pens and chute if any doctoring is needed. Probably the best reason for feeding like this is that we have mostly brahma f1 crossed cows and them coming to us everyday for feed calms them down tremendously. It makes them be around us daily and while they are still very protective of their calves the cows are not completely wild and dangerous. Most mornings are simple, routine, and over by 10. The only typical reason to be finished later is having to grind a new load of feed to finish feeding with. After feeding its off to other things.
